The future of REALbasic (iPhone support) and REAL Server line

Currently REAL Software is working on supporting Cocoa for Mac OS X to replace the Carbon framework that is currently supported. The beta testing will begin very soon. iPhone support for REALbasic is also in work!

The web continues to be a platform REAL Software is interested in supporting and they are doing research into the best way to support it.

Supporting the iPhone is the number one feature requested by REALbasic users. That fact is not lost on REAL Software. The Cocoa work they are doing now, as well as other prerequisites to iPhone support, are in the works.

REAL Server will also play an increasingly important role for those deploying multi-user applications.

Geoff Perlman can’t promise us a time-frame for these technologies, but he can promise us that they are important to them and that REAL Software continue to move towards supporting them. REAL Software are more focused than ever on listening closely to what is most important to us, and delivering the technologies that enable us success.

I'm interested in all. Currently working on the development of TUTSPOLIS and I hope that in near feature the project will be successful.

  1. I think iPhone deployment would be something that would not only create a new market for Real, but it would bump revenue considerably and help support the other products.

The simple fact is that if you can create a Cocoa based application and compile it down to a compatible format, you should be able to do this. I could see a version of RealBasic for the iPhone as being a HUGE success for them. I saw a comment by the maker of Monkeybread shunning the idea, but Christian is not seeing the forest through the trees.

iPhone App’s ARE OSX app’s, really not much different in the way you code them in Objective-C, but you’re limited in what you can do and what services you have access too. If you can level the playing field, make it easier to create iPhone app’s with RB, why the hell not!

I say go for it… If its available. It’ll sell because think about all the Basic developers out there.

    Hello Gary,

I agree with you. RealBasic for the iPhone can be the fastest and easiest platform for developing applications for this amazing device.

  3. Neil Curry says:

They’d have my money if they released an iPhone compatible version of RealBasic, I really can’t get my head around Objective-C…

    RealBasic I understand.

  4. Jakub Pawlak says:

I still hope that REALbasic for iPhone will be released as soon as possible :)

  5. Brian OBrien says:

iPhone support would be beyond great.
I spent months getting my application written and published using XCode and Interface builder. REALBasic would have been a god send.

  6. Michael Kornblum says:

Cocoa is all well and good, and I realize that the vast majority of RealBASIC/ RealStudio users are Mac people, but the thing is, would I still need a Mac to develop for the iPhone? And what about Window smart devices? If we get both iPhone and Windows Mobile under our belts, we’d totally dominate.

  7. Jakub Pawlak says:

Yes, you will still need a Mac to develop a iPhone app because REALbasic will probably use Xcode tools to compile and run iPhone apps. This is the only method to make this work.
